4 Ways to Easily Prevent Your Child from Bad Behavior

There’s no such thing as a bad kid.

There’s a reason why the Pen is lifted from the child (he’s not accountable for his bad behavior) until he reaches puberty.

Kids are naturally curious and often try new things. (Even though we’ve told them how curiosity killed the cat!)

Don’t let your kids do anything they shouldn’t. Many times, children are unaware of the consequences of their actions and they might end up doing things they don’t mean to do.

With your duas and gentle reminders, they will benefit immensely in shaa Allaah. (Yes, even though we’ve reminded them TEN THOUSAND TIMES already!)

They deserve to be reminded multiple times, taught and guided aright. And it’s never too late to teach them right from wrong.

*smile* Don’t worry too much. In sha Allaah, they will turn out all right. Stay hopeful and don’t forget to make duaa and take action!

Here are some tips for teaching children how to behave properly, if they seem to be taking a bad turn.

1. Find out where they learn bad actions from.

If your child has been exposed to negative influences, such as violence, it’s important to find out what those influences were. Is it the TV? Bad company?

If you know the root of the matter, you’ll be able to take action against exposing them to such influences and find halal alternatives instead.

2. Protect and keep them away from such bad influences.

There are many ways to prevent your children from being influenced by negative people and things. One of the easiest ways to do this is to make sure they spend time with positive role models.

This means spending time with family members who are good examples of how to live life well. Encourage them to make friends with other children who frequent the mosque. Invite good families home, allowing your child to mingle with them.

If the negative influence is the TV, pack it and throw it in the ocean or something. Actually, no, even our ocean friends won’t find the TV welcoming. Please dispose of it in the best way you see fit.

3. Treat them kindly and gently.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no gentleness in a thing but it adorns it, and the absence of gentleness in anything makes it ugly.” Narrated by Muslim, 4698.

Kindness and gentleness go a long way. No matter what it is, try to explain it to your child patiently and calmly. Explain the negative consequences of their actions and tell them that this is what Shaytaan likes.

4. Let them know that bad actions are done by bad people and it is not something Allaah loves.

You should also make sure that your children understand what is right and wrong. Teach them good manners and morals. Make sure they know that there are consequences in this world and the Hereafter for doing things that aren’t allowed.

Teach them the characteristics of the believers. Sunnahonline.com has an interesting article on these characteristics.

Children are innocent and may not be aware of what pleases Allaah. They need to be taught and guided. They need to learn about Allaah’s Love and the deeds that take them closer to Allaah.

After all the reminders, lecturing and unending efforts, you’d think our Intelligent Kids would’ve learned it all by now.

But the fitnah outside our homes, and inside our homes (remember that TV?) can be difficult to deal with, even for ourselves, let alone our children. And the fine line between good and evil is becoming finer by the day. Our children need our help.

We can’t afford to get tired or give up. When we behave badly, do we give up on ourselves? Nope, we don’t. (And if we do, we shouldn’t!)

So, c’mon, mommeroes! (mom-heroes?)

Let’s put ourselves in their tiny shoes, protect them from evil and HELP them resist temptations and bad behavior! (I can almost see our capes flying in the wind.)

Oh, btw. (I almost forgot!) If you like ‘freebies’, you HAVE TO get this one. It’s a 30-Day Islamic Parenting Checklist. But you can think it’s a challenge. Let me know how it goes.
